announces the addition of a new, fanless EBX form factor single
board computer to their embedded PC line, the PCM-9550F. Ideal
for medical equipment and POS applications, the PCM-9550F's fast,
low-power Pentium® 266 MHz processor, EBX form factor, multimedia
capability and multiple digital input/outputs make it the ideal
embedded platform to build a system around.
Low
Power Consumption, Quiet Operation
The Advantech
PCM-9550F is a natural choice for medical equipment applications.
With its low power consumption (typically 3 amps at 5 volts) and
fanless operation in temperatures up to 60° C (140° F),
the board is at home in quiet environments. The EBX form factor
provides a high-speed PCI bus for faster data transfer needs,
such as high-speed ethernet. Also, since the system chipset and
processor are from Intel EMD, a long-term (5 year typical) component
supply is guaranteed. Long-term product support is important to
medical customers, where product licensing and approval is more
difficult. Working closely with vendors like Intel helps Advantech
service these customers, and all our customers, better.
POS
Environment Needs Addressed
The PCM-9550F's
built-in digital inputs and outputs, fast 266 MHz low power processor
and fanless operation directly address the needs of the POS market.
Eight digital inputs and eight digital outputs (TTL level signals)
are provided. Four COM ports w/+/- 5 V or 12 V by jumper select
are also provided as well as cash drawer support. Minimum downtime
associated with this well-proven processor and chipset combination
make this a favorite for POS as well as process control equipment.

Multimedia Support
The PCM-9550F
provides an array of multimedia features. These include AC97 3D
surround sound, a VGA/CRT controller (C&T 69000) with built-in
2 MB memory and 36-bit LCD interface. The PCM-9550FM (available
in Q4 2000) will add video-in that supports RCA and S-video connectors
via optional cable kit, and TV-out capability which supports NTSC
and PAL formats. There is also an optional C&T 69030 chip
(on both PCM-9550F/M) with 4 MB built-in memory plus support for
dual display CRT-LCD..

Standard Options
The PCM-9550
Series allows customers to expand their range of applications
by utilizing the flexibility of the EBX form factor. The PCM-9550F
allows for ISA or PCI module upgrades such as ethernet, and provides
a mini-PCI socket for optional 56 K modem. Other features include
512 KB 2nd level cache, 2 LPT, 2 USB, fast IrDA and 4 serial ports
(3 RS-232 and 1 RS232/422/485). CompactFlash™ as well as
DiskOnChip® 2000 SSDs are both supported.
