Meeting
Market Demand
This particular
system integrator wanted a product that would operate in a semipublic
environment to provide PC-based cable TV, a
general information KIOSK that is both dependable and reliable,
plus provide a
web interface that is e-commerce capable. Other features requested
for this product were a Touch screen TFT LCD, built-in 10/100
Base-T Ethernet, built-in 10xDVD drive and speakers. This customer
also had their own external design in mind and were looking for
a solution provider that had experience making similar products.
They also required that the product pass all FCC, UL and CE licensing
requirements and ensure basic engineered elements such as waterproofing
and heat dissipation were also addressed. This narrowed the field
considerably, leading them to Advantech.
The Right Experience
From
first contact with this customer, Advantech understood what their
needs were. Not only did Advantech have the people that were familiar
with the market this company was participating in, but we also
better understood the requirements of the overall project. This
experience has been gained over many years from making similar
products (such as the PPC-120EW-RT)
with similar demands. Experience from making industrial SBCs that
have been modified to incorporate our customers' designs. Experience
also gained from working with Advantech suppliers that help make
such items as the injection molded casing for the product and
allocating key component parts such as the LCDs, DVD ROM and CPUs.
Putting
it All Together
Advantech
helped make this project a reality by bringing together and coordinating
all stages of this project. These stages included the design and
manufacture of the tooling required for the injection molded parts
as well as the stamped metal parts. Advantech modified an existing
CPU board to give this customer a fast supply of the custom fit
board with all the features they needed. Advantech allocated the
LCD, DVD key components and electronic components necessary for
the CPU board. Advantech did complete unit manufacturing, assembly
and testing. And perhaps most importantly, Advantech is also providing
support for local RMA/repair service.
