Four
COM ports make the PCM-5825 a strong contender for projects that
require added I/O capability. And IRQ sharing means that the COM
ports don't chew up four whole IRQs. The immediate predecessor,
the PCM-5820, has two
COM ports, but no IRQ sharing. So PCM-5825 = PCM-5820 - LVDS +
(COM 3, 4) + IRQ sharing. The PCM-5825 provides all the advantages
of the Geode GX1 processorlowest power consumption for any
x86 processor at these performance levels, low heat, and fanlessnessplus
added I/Os.
COM Ports Are Hot
USB may be
popular for the desktop set, but for industrial PCs, COM ports
are where the action is. COM ports are the channel of choice for
text displays, touchscreens, industrial controls, bar code readers,
and thermal printers, to mention a few. The PCM-5825 also
supports two USB ports.
Easy Upgrade
The PCM-5825
has the same front panel as the PCM-5820, which should make for
an easy upgrade path. Similar to the PCM-5820 Series, the PCM-5825
is a 3.5" SBC with a low power, fanless, embedded 586-class NS
GX1 processor. Other on-board features include VGA/LCD, Audio,
a CompactFlash Card socket, and 10/100Base-T Ethernet. This board
is a feature-packed, 586-level, hassle-free solution for space-critical
applications, especially where increased COM port capacity is
required.
