RISC DTOS Service Inaugurated

Customers interested in Reduced Instruction Set Computer solutions will be happy to hear about Advantech’s newly inaugurated RISC DTOS Service. This is Advantech’s expedited Design To Order Service applied to RISC projects, using Intel StrongARM SoC based solutions, and fully integrated with Win CE 3.0 or Win CE .NET.

RISC benefits include low cost, small footprint, optimum performance with low power requirements, and built in toughness.  Advantech helps customers reap the advantages of those benefits by supplying low cost, application ready, pre-engineering platforms with software and OS already integrated, all aimed at fast time-to-market.

There are two basic DTOS RISC routes
SOM and SBC.  The first employs an Advantech SOM module on a custo-mized carrier board, with three working samples ready in 30 days.  The second employs a customized SBC, with five working samples ready in 50 days.

Advantech Cuts the RISC Risk

RISC DTOS is specifically designed to reduce initial project launch invest-ment, reduce time-to-market, provide complete tech support for low cost development, and provide application ready Win CE integration. With RISC DTOS, there is an alternative to the dauntingly high cost of design house development.  Tech support from Advantech lowers the technical entry barrier.
Advantech has been undertaking RISC-based development solutions for years, and the resulting products have been deployed in various vertical market applications that stress high performance on low power, cost effective plat-forms. The team's expertise in low power, low cost system design enable it to develop a range of high performance solutions for a variety of consumer products.

Full Functionality and Flexibility

The PCI-6870 supports both 0.13 micron and 0.18 micron socket 370 FCPGA PentiumÒ III/CeleronTM processors. Using the Intel 815E chipset, it can support a PentiumÒ III/CeleronTM CPU up to 1.26/1.2 GHz respectively. Its DIMM socket supports system memory up to 512 MB. The PCI-6870 uses the VGA controller in the 815E chipset and supports Direct AGP. The VGA memory is UMA shared memory and can be further upgraded to 4 MB with an optional expansion module. There are two serial ports, two USB ports, a 10/100 Mbps Ethernet interface as well as SIR IrDA compliant infrared support. Its full functionality and well-integrated I/O enable the PCI-6870 as a high performance computing solution.

To manage the business development of RISC-based computing solutions, the current HMI team will redirect its focus toward RISC-based products, and will henceforth be called the RISC Computing Solution Division (RCS), operating under the Core Platform Organization (CPO). Joe Cheng, who successfully led the MobiPanel to market before he joined the RCS division, will lead the product and business management team. The business and service scope will range from SOM, Board level, System level and Design to Order Service (DTOS). The focus of the RISC Computing Solution Division is on strengthen-ing the development of RISC-based products and expanding the scope of our eplatform partner territory.
