PCM-5820 Now Supports Windows CE .NET

Good news!  After the careful resolution of several technical issues (see below), Advantech’s PCM-5820 now supports embedded Windows CE .NET.  So now all the benefits of high connectivity, super compact software footprint, power management, and real-time support that CE .NET offers are all available on the PCM-5820 platform.
 

Fast Time to Market
 Windows® CE .NET lets customers leverage thousands of existing software applications and millions of developers already familiar with Visual Basic and C++ programming. It is easy to migrate existing Windows 98, and NT software to Windows CE. So development time and money is saved, allowing developers to get working prototypes to customers quickly.
 

 Technical Issues Overcome
 Although Windows CE .NET was designed to work with various CPU architectures, many built-in features were designed for systems such as as PDAs and webpads that are never powered off, and data kept in RAM could be lost if power were lost. This scenario did not really fit into the popular x86 PC architecture that was deployed in the embedded computing market. Advantech has made many improvements that help Windows CE .NET work seamlessly with x86 platforms. These improvements include:
   Advantech intellectual property license
   Working OS image includes all necessary device drivers
   Application autolaunch with specifiable parameters
   Save memory control panel settings
   Drivers either developed in-house or
    modified to be bug free
   Persistant registry
   Save resistry on suspend
   Windows CE .NET license
   DOS-less bootloader
   Customizable boot logo
   Fast IDE disk access
    Device test utilities
